OVERVIEW
Makers of Mischief is a humorous, heartwarming, and emotionally engaging look back at childhood experienced by many “baby boomers” —specifically those 35 million Americans who were children during the decade of the 1950s.
It is a memoir of the author, his brother, and their neighborhood pals. The true stories of their escapades describe the life they knew in and around their government housing project in south Seattle. They had their bicycles, and their imaginations, both of which allowed them to escape into worlds of fun, adventure, heroes, and dreams. Their bicycles were their chariots to adventure! Along the way they learned valuable lessons in life, which enabled them to escape their poverty and catch their dreams.
The book is more than personal experiences during the 1950s, because boyhood—and girlhood too—are universal and timeless. Children, at their basic core, are the same whenever and wherever they are. They all have the same needs and desires; for fun, hope, dreams, self-worth, achievement, and to escape the monsters under their beds. And . . . children grow up to become adults, who need the same things.
In addition, Makers of Mischief is a nostalgic look back at our nation during one of the most searching, and defining periods in its history. It describes life in a period when America made the unsure transition from being a country of major potential to one of significant stature and leadership in the world community, almost against her own will and inclination.
The book is not only about the innocence of childhood, but also about the innocence of that period in our history, when we all experienced life in a simpler time.
Makers of Mischief is professionally published in a 6” X 9” standard book format. It is hardbound with top quality materials and a full-color wrap-around “dust jacket.” It contains 374 delightful pages of humor, memories, charming vignettes, and engaging stories. It is augmented with pictures and quotations, which enliven the narrative. Each book also comes with a set of four full-colored detachable Dream Cards to assist the reader in catching their own dreams.
